On a very warm and dry (if a little overcast) Sunday afternoon (22nd Sept 13) Cheltenham Woodcraft took on and conquered the Sugar Loaf, here are some of the statistics: 51 people (and two dogs) rose to the occasion, 1 Woodchip (with only four sleeps until his fifth birthday and who walked it all without any carries), 12 Elfins, 7 Pioneers, 5 Venturers, 26 adults (one of whom has had 5 years of free bus passes) and 2 dogs - Woodcraft is truly for all ages and all species.
We all walked 9 miles up and over the hill and along the of the banks beautiful Grwyne Fawr river. We climbed up to 596m from the village Glangrwyney (just 14m short of the 610m needed to make the Sugar Loaf a mountain (2000ft). We walked for six hours at about 1 1/2 miles an hour and no one (well almost no one) complained about how hard it was. Jane and family were on time and had to wait 45 minutes for the rest of us (she clearly does not understand Woodcraft Folk time!).
